Race report: BMW Z3 Arithmetic Defies Logic at Brands Hatch Feature Race

Team SHAKAXD leaves Kent with seven championship points, a fastest lap accolade, and an unresolved mathematical mystery following the FormulaDuude Season 02 Feature Race at Brands Hatch. Driving the BMW Z3 #01, Fernando Horta set the quickest lap of the event with a 1:34.097—nearly eight-tenths faster than race winner Juliano Flores. Despite this pace, Horta completed fifteen laps in twenty-six minutes and twelve seconds, precisely one second after Flores completed sixteen laps in the same timeframe. The team is currently analyzing telemetry to determine where thirty-nine hundred meters of race track went missing.

Fernando Horta (Driver): The BMW felt well-balanced through Paddock Hill Bend and into Druids. The mandatory drive-through was served without incident, the pit limiter engaged properly, and the tyres were holding up well on the English tarmac. On lap four, I put together a clean run and set a 1:34.097, which nobody else matched all afternoon. After that, I settled into what felt like a winning rhythm. For the second half of the race, I was directly behind Juliano's purple Z3. I maintained a gap of about one second, waiting for a safe opening to make a move for the lead. We crossed the finish line side by side in what I believed to be a close battle for the win. Then Alan informed me over the radio that Juliano was being awarded sixteen laps while I was being credited with fifteen. I did not spin. I did not take an excursion through the gravel. I simply drove around Brands Hatch fifteen times while Juliano drove around it sixteen times in almost the exact same period of time. It is a remarkably efficient strategy on his part, and I congratulate him on his mastery of temporal management.

Alan Donatellofson (Crew Chief): Outstanding execution from Fernando today. Setting the fastest lap of the race while simultaneously losing an entire lap of distance to a driver running eight-tenths slower is a operational milestone we may never repeat. During the mid-week break, the garage staff will focus on learning how to count past fifteen.

Ps. tib, if you have the telemetry file for lap eleven, please forward it to our garage, because our GPS shows Fernando was briefly floating over Surrey.
